Example Explained

While playing a hinge barre, the first finger moves like a hinge on a door as it opens and closes.

Finger 1 of the left hand should be in a prepared position with the finger stretched out when the hinge is open and the full barre is not being played.

Using a hinge barre avoids the fingers of the left hand from "jumping" to an adjacent string to play a note.
