Execution of the Split Barre on the Guitar

  • Very rare and only used as last resort
  • Lower part of barre (playing the higher note) plays a note and then slides toward headstock to play the next lower fret
  • Upper part of the barre (playing the lower note) remains constant

Example Explained

The C is maintained in the lower voice for three beats.
The C in the upper voice moves to a B on the string .
Usually this type of barre is used only in fast sections where there is no other option. This example is out of context but gives you an understanding of the split barre usage.
