Three Main Places to Change Timbre on the Classical Guitar

  • Natural - basically over the sound hole, where you play most of the time
  • Ponticello - closer to the bridge giving a more metallic or percussive sound
  • Sul Tasto - over the over the finger board giving a round and soft sound

Any scale can be used to practice changes in timbre. Here, the C major scale is used to play natural, sul tasto, and ponticello respectively. The indication in a score would be nat., pont., and tasto above or below the staff.
