What is Artistry?

What does it mean to attain artistry with the guitar? Our definition: to achieve mastery of the guitar to the point that one can interpret the composer's score to allow the audience to experience the desired affect imposed by the composer and delivered through the performer.

All art evokes feeling. Music composed for the guitar is meant by the composer to evoke some sort of feeling (whether we agree with the feeling or not). If the art is good, then it will evoke the feeling intended.

In order to achieve this artistry, we must be able to understand it and technically be able to present it. It takes a lot to control the guitar to achieve such success. This control will be the focus of the following articles on Artistry.

We will begin with aspects of actual performance because this is the first and visual impression that begins the listener's journey to experience the desired feelings. Then, we will move to the control of the music physically and mentally.
