Combining the Hands on the Guitar

• Habits will be magnified when combining the habits of both hands
• Beginning students must be patient in acquiring the coordination for fluid movement
• At this stage, a student (with the help of a teacher) should be working out of a method book of mutual choosing
  • Method books keep a student moving in a progressive manner (simple to complex)
  • An understanding of the basic movements should be apparent before beginning any method
  • Methods that incorporate music from the classical repertoire are most effective in keeping musical interest

Right Hand Fingerings

These fingerings should be played with all of the following basic exercises. On fingerings not using the thumb (p), rest and free stroke should be practiced
