Beginning Finger Alternations

  • Alternation refers to multiple fingers playing the same string
  • Plant, Action, Release, Re-plant are always working
  • Work on a single string before moving between two adjacent strings

Beginning Alternation Steps

  1. Plant right hand finger  i on string and p on string
  2. Action and Release the string with i and then plant m on string
  3. Action and Release the string with m and then plant i on string
  4. Repeat to achieve security
  5. After some security, attempt to do the same for string & and use different finger combinations (a-m and i-a)

Example Explained

The videos demonstrates the beginning finger alternations on a single string. Video 1 is demonstrates the free stroke and Video 2 demonstrates the rest stroke.

When moving to another adjacent string, move from the elbow keeping the hand and wrist in proper position.
