Releasing the Strings on the Classical Guitar |
|
|
|
The Release Exercise
- Puts all movement together to sound the guitar strings
- There are four steps: Plant, Action, Release, Re-plant
- Develops the secure habit of the scratching exercise on the strings
Release Steps
- Place (Plant) right hand fingers p, i, m, & a on strings
, , , & respectively
- Starting with i, move finger (Action) as in the action exercise until the string "slips" off the finger tip (Release)
- Relax to starting position (Re-plant)
- Repeat individually with fingers and thumb as many times as needed
Example Explained
The Plant position is on the left with the Release position is on the right.
Keep all fingers touching the strings during the action movement of an individual finger.
Watch that the tip joint does not collapse during the Action/Release movement.
Move p from the thumb wrist joint. Be sure not to reach under the string too much on the Plant or you will "snap" the string and produce an unwanted snapping sound.
