Building Good Habits for Playing the Classical Guitar
- It is always best to begin with the simple and move to more complex
- Scratching begins good habits of movement without actually playing the guitar
- Only when the scratching movement is habitual should one move to placing it on the guitar
Scratching Steps
- Place right hand fingers on the tips on a flat surface (table or even you knee)
- Scratch with one finger at a time and return to starting position
- Keep non-moving fingers still during the exercise
Example Explained
The set position is on the left and the scratching is on the right with the i finger.
Keep all fingers in contact with the surface at all times.
Move the little (c or x finger) with the anular (ring) finger.
Keep joints moving in the same direction (all flex or all extend).
