The Opposable Thumb(p)

  • Move from the thumb wrist joint
  • Let the tip joint stay relaxed, but do not fire from it to move the string

Example

Example Explained

The thumb is placed on the string and is ready to fire a free stroke on the left.

The thumb has fired and is "aimed" at the middle joint of the "i" finger.

Example

Example Explained

The thumb can play a rest stroke but the hand must rotate out in order to execute it.

Note: The thumb in this photograph does not have a longer fingernail like most classical guitarists. However, the movement is perfection. "No nail" is what happens when you move furniture as a guitarist.
