Positioning the Guitar with the Footstool

  • Guitar should sit touching five points of the body:
    1. Lower waist of the guitar to top of left thigh
    2. Bottom of guitar to right thigh
    3. Right forearm above bridge
    4. Back of guitar to chest
    5. Left hand to the fretboard
  • The head of the guitar should be even with your eyesight
  • The individual strings should only be partially visible when looking down at the fretboard

Example Explained

No matter what position chosen, the entire body of the player should remain relaxed.

The right foot is flat on the floor creating a stable base.

The back is straight and the left leg is directly over the footstool.


5 Ways to Move the Guitar

  1. Move the guitar head forward or back
  2. Tilt the bottom of the guitar in or out
  3. Raise or lower the head of the guitar
  4. Raise or lower the entire guitar (usually from raising or lowering footstool or apparatus)
  5. Moving the entire guitar to the right or left in relation to the center of your torso
