Positioning the Guitar with a Strap
- Three ways to attach a strap to the guitar:
- Suction cups on each side of the guitar body(shown in example below)
- Velcro strips in similar position as suction cups
- Aaron Shearer's strap
- Seating and standing change position of guitar slightly
- All references of position are still valid as when using footstool & apparatuses
- Guitar will be further to the right side of the torso than with any other positioning technique
Example Explained
Strap causes the guitar to "hang" off of right thigh moving the guitar further right than any other position.
The player must angle their entire body to ensure that the sound projection is forward.
Be aware that your right arm might begin to "fall asleep" while playing in this position.
Example Explained
The strap is the only way to play standing.
The guitar will move slightly to the left when moving from a sitting to standing position with the strap.
Example Explained
Two suction cups are used to attach the strap to the guitar.
The larger of the two is put on the bottom of the guitar.
The second suction cup can be placed under the neck where strap button would go on a steel string guitar. Note: The suction cups will not work directly on French polished guitars. They need a non-porous surface. To create this surface, use a product like Kling-On.
